Celebration in Sandy Beach Water Park is a hit

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Loud music could be heard down the street from Sandy Beach Water Park.

Middle Georgia residents were eager to celebrate Memorial Day and get wet.

Bridget Obley, a daughter of a war veteran, says Memorial Day is special to her.

“I think of the people that did die for us, so that we can come here and enjoy this Memorial Day,” she said.

Obley’s father served in the military along with some of her family members. Obley says she told her daughter that Memorial Day is an important day.

“I want to teach my daughter that it’s not just about a three day weekend, and kind of the start of summer vacation for her, but we stop and we reflect and know that we are here because of them,” Obley said.

She says it is because of her father and family members that she is free. She wants her daughter to understand that.

Obley’s daughter, Grace, is autistic so its important to Obley to take Grace out of the house more this summer.

“Getting her out of the house sometimes is hard, but today I told her I was coming and she got up and came with me,” Obley said.

Grace says she enjoys the wave pool and lazy river. She even challenges her mom to races in the lazy river.

Obley said spending the day at Sandy Beach was a good idea.

“I’m loving that we’re just having fun and that its Memorial Day and that we can come out here and enjoy ourselves.”
