Cedar Ridge Trail Provides Middle Georgia With An Outdoor Escape

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Nestled among the cedar trees in Monroe County is a place where you can go to run, bike, or maybe bump into a few of Middle Georgia’s most elusive residents.

“A huge, big turkey got up and flew out that way. It was awesome. It was really cool. You don’t get that close to a turkey that often,” John Clark says. He’s the brains behind the Cedar Ridge Trail!

Using just a leaf blower, a Fraisor axe, a tractor, and a chainsaw, John and a few friends built the trail.

“We did the first section,” he says. “It took pretty much all Winter.”

As long as the sun is up, the trail is available seven days a week so that you can enjoy the view!

“It only takes less than a half hour to get here and you can be back home, ride, or whatever you have to do. You only spend about two hours versus four hours and it’s a great trail,” Clark exclaims.

Cedar Ridge Trail isn’t just for the outdoor enthusiast. Anyone can take in the smell of Wisterias and the sounds of Mother Nature!

“The cool thing about it, is that several times it will come back close to the parking area so if you feel like you’ve had enough for the day, no big deal, just come back another day,” Clark says.

Or if you’re like Jennifer, a runner who we met along the trail, grab your sneakers and hit the trail for a run!

“It was a good challenging run — lots of little hills but not too many,” she says.

Cedar Ridge Trails is located at Dayspring Presbyterian Church on Highway 41 in Forsyth. The trail will be hosting the Journey Race for Autism Awareness on April 28. To participate in the 5K, visit centralgaaustism.org.
