Cash in Your ‘Meal Ticket’ for Soulful Servings

OGLETHORPE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The menu may change everyday, but the service has remained the same for 20 years. The Meal Ticket Cafeteria is known around Macon County for it’s soulful servings. Customers trickle in Monday through Friday for their favorite lunch item.

Lenton Hayes says, “It’s just good eating, it’s good eating.”

The recipes are all thanks to a woman named Doshie Walker.

“My mom is a phenomenal cook, everybody in this county has always known my mom,” said co-owner of The Meal Ticket Glennice Dugger.

Dugger and her sister Ceneva Hayes work together to keep their mother’s restaurant booming. Hayes is the manager and head cook.

“Whatever I prepare, I learned it from my mom,” said Ceneva.

Miss Doshie may no longer be with them, but Ceneva says she knows her mom is still around.

She said “Sometimes when I walk in I say ‘Mama I know you’re in here with me,your spirit is in here with me,’ because I can feel it.”

That same spirit taught Ceneva how to make the sweet potato souffle, which appeals to just about everyone who walks through the doors.

“I like the taste of it, I like the marshmallows, how they put it together, the ingredients are really good,” said customer Kenny Gouch.

The Meal Ticket Cafeteria is located at 111 Sumter Street Oglethorpe, GA 31068.
