Carswell Named interim Macon Police Chief
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Deputy Chief Mike Carswell has been named interim Police Chief for the Macon Police Department.
Macon Mayor Robert Reichert introduced Chief Carswell. He’s taking over after former chief Mike Burns stepped down earlier this year.
Friday was Burn’s last official day.
Leaders in Macon came to the news conference to show their support. Carswell already knows what he wants to establish on day one.
“We are working real hard right now to earn public trust, I mean I really believe that, its been quoted before, in order for us to police, we gotta have that permission and we want to reestablish that, I think we can, we’re going to do that as I said by being as transparent as we can be,”
Carswell said.
Carswell wants to reduce crime in the area and gain back respect for his officers.
He’ll be the interim police chief for the Macon Police Department until the city and county merge on January first.
