Car chase ends in Macon Walmart parking lot

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a car chase Friday night after responding to a domestic disturbance call.

According to Lt. Randy Gonzalez, the call came from the Harbor Club apartments off Moseley Dixon Road around 7 p.m. When deputies arrived, Gonzalez says 27-year-old Antwan Smith drove off.

Deputies chased after the suspect and it ended in the Walmart parking lot on Harrison Road after Smith hit a guardrail. Gonzalez says he attempted to drive off again and intentionally hit a patrol car.

Gonzalez tells 41NBC Smith then tried to run away on foot.

The sheriff’s office says there are warrants out for Smith’s arrest. He’s charged with eluding and aggravated assault on a peace officer.

The deputy involved was sent to a local hospital to get checked out. No serious injures were reported.
