Calls for clarity are growing, as Musk again threatens federal workers’ jobs over an email
Uncertainty surrounds an email asking federal employees to justify their jobs.

CNN-Uncertainty surrounds an email asking federal employees to justify their jobs. Though the deadline has passed, Elon Musk insists employees will get another chance, warning on X, “Failure to respond a second time will result in termination.”
This contradicts the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which called responses voluntary but strongly encouraged. Some agencies advised employees not to reply.
Max Alonzo of the National Federation of Federal Employees questioned the consequences of non-response. “When is it that somebody doesn’t answer the email and they are reprimanded or, or let go or terminated.”
Republican lawmakers, including Senators Shelley Moore Capito and James Lankford, are demanding clarification.
Representative Rich McCormick urged a more balanced approach. “Just ease up a little bit so we can actually get some really good things done,” he said, ” but make sure it’s concisely done without a lot of negativity.”
Representative Mark Alford emphasized assisting displaced workers. “I really wanted to hear their concerns,” he said “let’s work together about how can we find you the next job.”
As federal job cuts continues lawmakers say they’re hearing from constituents who are now out of work.
President Donald trump praised the email yesterday. He said, “if you don’t answer like you’re sort of semi-fired or you’re fired.”
