Byron Police make two arrests in drug deal gone wrong

BRYON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Byron Police arrested two men after a drug deal turned into a robbery.
According to a news release, officers heard gun shots near Byron Baptist Church and noticed a man following and shooting at another car.
Moments later a call came in from the driver saying that he was robbed and he was chasing the person that robbed him. Officers pursued both cars, the alleged victim immediately stopped and the accused robber was stopped after hitting a tree near Byron Housing Project 1.
Officers arrested accused robber 25-year-old Renard Turner and alleged victim 30-year-old Christopher Wonnum after an investigation showed that Turner attempted to sell Wonnum drugs and Turner left with both the drugs and the money.
Turner is charged with reckless driving, felony fleeing or attempting to elude, safety restraint, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving (stolen firearm), aggressive driving, failure to maintain a single lane, failure to stop for stop sign, failure to stop for traffic light, hit & run, illegal possession of a controlled substance (Xanax) and possession of cocaine.
Wonnum is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony.
