MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Local leaders in Milledgeville are hosting ‘Bury the hatchet’, an event aimed at combating gang violence.

The event is November 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Midway Event Center, which is located at 1735 Irwinton Road in Milledgeville.

Poet and CEO of Like Water Business Services INC, Yolanda Latimore, says this event is a time to stop gang violence and work on conflict resolution.

“Clearly there is a problem, so we’re trying to come up with a solution,” says CEO of O3C.Positive Change Telly Boone. “We’re trying to figure out how we can come up with a plan to break the cycle of violent revenge.”

Boone says while he believes gang violence is a problem in Milledgeville, he knows it is happening in other places. Boone hopes to expand this event and help other communities.

Event speaker and Milledgeville rapper, Donnie “D-Boy” Cannie, says there will be local leaders speaking at the event and programs established for after.

The event is free and open to the public.
