BS Report: Three Weeks Away from Opening Day

Well, you can’t be in Florida without being near some palm trees and a golf course and there’s a body of water, so let me know if that alligator pops out of there and comes after me, please. The Braves are on the road tonight. They are playing at Minnesota against the twins and they continue their spring training schedule. They are three weeks away from opening day.

It starts three weeks from tonight in Atlanta against the Kansas City Royals. So, we’re getting into the middle of spring training here, where the roster is starting to pare down a little bit in spring training. And we’re starting to see some players go back to camp and may have had a chance to be on the big league team. And, you know, we’ll probably see in the next week or two some players get released, but for the most part there’s still a lot of baseball left. There’s still two plus weeks before they break camp and head north. So there are still a lot of people who are competing for jobs on that 26 man roster for Opening Day.

It’s going to be interesting to see, of course, what they do. The DH role. Now that Profar is gone, what are they going to do? Well, Kyle Farmer or Dominic Smith get some more opportunities. That’s going to be a question everybody is going to be asking for sure. And the fifth starter’s job with Bryce Elder and Joy Wentz tackling that and going after that job, it’s going to be interesting to see how that kind of unfolds. Of course, the bullpen still has a couple of spots that will be up for grabs, so pitchers are still trying to lock down bullpen spots, so there’s still some competition on this roster for spring training. And that’ll be a good thing as they continue on here. And look the Braves are playing pretty good ball. They have a nine and two record entering tonight’s game of the twins.

And most people think that it’s not that big of a deal as far as a spring training win loss record. But you know what? Considering the fact they’ve got a new manager and want wise, and also considering the fact they had a rough season last year with only 76 wins, I think it’s a very good thing that the Braves are at least having some success and doing some good things in Spring training. We know there’s been some off the field stuff with the injury to Kim, the shortstop, the two injuries to the pitchers Schwellenbach and Waldrop, and then of course, their suspension already this week so far. But let’s just hope they continue to play good ball so that in three weeks when they take the field for the first time the regular season, they’ll be ready to go and have a much better year and hopefully stay healthy for 2026.
