BS Report: The Falcons Do Not Have a Quarterback

Let’s talk more about the Atlanta Falcons, who lost in week one of the 2026 season, to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 2213. The Falcons did not look very good. They do not have a quarterback. We’ve established that. And until they get that fixed, this is not going to be a very good football team. They have to attack well over coming back from an oblique issue.

They have Michael Penix coming back from something with his name mental physical. We don’t know. He’s not ready to play. Cooper Rush is not very good as the third stringer, and Jack Stran is a quarterback from some school up north, and he’s heard of who’s not ready to play in the NFL, according to the Falcons. You could take the viewpoint that a lot of Falcons fans have about Jac Strain and say, well, what have you got to lose?

You’re already going to lose games the way this is looking. Cooper Rush is not a very good quarterback. He proved that again the other day. And you know we had a guest on our radio show Make the Point last Friday that it’s kind of unfair for the team to throw Jack strand and undrafted free agent quarterback get in the mix in the early part of the season.

And I understand that because the players may say, well, is this guy any good or not? How can we expect him to be good if he wasn’t even drafted? Well, the 49ers said the same thing a couple years ago about a player who was the last pick in the draft. And look what Brock Purdy’s done. He’s done pretty well, don’t you think?

So? Who knows what they’re going to do regardless of who plays quarterback? This Sunday against Carolina at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Falcons have got to target Kyle Pitts. He was targeted only one time on Sunday against Pittsburgh. He did not make a catch. And so they just paid this guy a lot of money. They just succeeded in his contract, gave him a new deal.

And it’s like, well you’ve got to use him. He is a weapon. He’s a six foot six, six foot seven tight end who you would think even a bad quarterback could try to get the ball to. So we’ll see if the quarterback, whomever it may be, can do a little bit better job of that on Sunday against the Panthers.

Of course. Look, Bijan Robinson is one of the best skill players in the NFL. He is a tremendous running back. He can catch the ball out of the back field. He proved that also on Sunday against Pittsburgh, when he called eight passes for 90 yards, ran the ball 21 times for 83. So we know he can do damage.

But you can’t just rely on him. You’ve got to get others involved. And that’s where it goes. Back to the quarterback situation. You’re like, well, you don’t have a quarterback, what are you going to do? So the Falcons have got to figure this out. Or if not, this is going to be a two and 15 season. And we’re going to start googling mock 2027 NFL draft to see which of the quarterbacks the Falcons may have a chance.

And if they do have a horrible record and do land in the top 5 or 8 because they’ll probably have a quarterback, they can go get. And of course, everybody started talking about Arch Manning being the quarterback the Falcons will get, which would be like a nightmare for me since I rooted against his grandfather when he played for the New Orleans Saints against the Falcons.

That was the quarterback New Orleans had when I started watching the Falcons back of the late 70s as a child. And of course, Steve Bartkowski was a lot better than Archie Manning. Don’t let anybody else tell you that. So, you know, look, they they’ve got a lot of things to figure out. They do have a new team. They have new coaching staff.

So maybe we have to give them a little bit of a learning curve in this first month of the season. This is not an easy schedule. I mean, next week they go to green Bay for a Thursday night game. You know that’s not going to be an easy game, no matter how good or bad the Packers may be.

So it’s going to be interesting to see how they kind of straighten out this quarterback situation. Get more players involved in the offense, eliminates some of those penalties, which were a killer the other day on Sunday against the Steelers and simply play better football. But it’s got to start with the quarterback. And right now the Falcons don’t have one.
