BS Report: Braves Need Bats for Game 3
We are getting closer to game three of the National League Wild Card Series, coming up right here on 41 NBC tonight, 8:00 for the pregame show and 815 from Truist Park for the first pitch. I’m in the hand of Ray Kerr as he will face the Philadelphia Phillies and Aaron Nola. Of course, the winner goes on to play the Dodgers starting on Saturday in Game one of the Division Series.
The loser goes home. Now, Ray Kerr is going to be the opener for the Braves tonight, and he will either face the first couple of hitters for the first inning of the Phillies line up, or he will maybe go through the first hole, nine hitters of the lineup and then hand the ball over to Grant Holmes. Now, why are the Braves doing this?
Well, they’re doing it because they want a lefty out there to face Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. And Ray Curry has had some pretty good success since coming back from Tommy John surgery a
Now, you may say, well, that didn’t work on Wednesday for game two when they put Dylan Lee out there with a two run lead, and then Schwarber and then Harper both came up with solo home runs. But you’re going to try to get a lefty against those two guys every chance you get. And that’s why the Braves are at least going to start the game with Ray Kerr and then hand it over to Grant Holmes.
Either way, the Braves have got to get some offense off of Aaron Nola, who has historically been very good against the Braves, of course, in his career and has done very well in the last two games. He’s finished against Atlanta. But now is the time for these Braves hitters to step up. Look, we know that it’s been such a home run, heavy hitting team this year.
And like on Tuesday they got a big home run from Austin Riley won the game. They did not get a home run on Wednesday. They lost the game. So the Braves are either going to have to hit some home runs tonight, or they’re going to have to generate some offense one way or the other, but we’re going to have to see some guys step up.
Look, the top three hitters in the lineup for the Braves in these first two games, they have not done very much. We’re going to have to see that tonight. We’re going to have to see Ronald Acuna who’s oh for six with a couple of walks in this series. He’s going to have to get some big hits tonight. We’re going to have to see Matt Olsen do more.
He got a RBI single on Wednesday. They need him again today for game three. And if Austin Riley can pull out some magic once again that would be really, really good. As well. So look every game these two teams have played over the last couple of years, whether it’s in the regular season or in the playoffs, it’s really been a war.
So this is going to be a real tough game for Atlanta tonight. But with it being a night game instead of that 215 start time the last two days, we should see a packed Truist Park tonight, which hopefully will be an advantage to the Braves. And you know they’re going to let the Phillies hear all about it as they’ve done the first two games as well.
So it’s going to be a real interesting game tonight. The season is on the line and we have to rely on Ray. Curt just started out for the Braves to see what he can do to hold Schwarber and Harper and the rest of the Phillies at bay until Grant Holmes comes out there, and hopefully until a brace gets him off.
