BS Report: A Different Look for Tech This Year; The Dawgs Are Stacked
After an appetizer of college football last weekend. We get it all started really this weekend, and it starts on Thursday night when Georgia Tech will have one of the Thursday games. They will host Colorado at 8:00 at Bobby Dodd, and that should be a real interesting game. Of course, they played at Colorado a year ago, this year’s Georgia Tech team, of course, Haynes King is gone now.
He was a three year starter and he was an excellent player. Now in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and Alberto Mendoza takes over. He is the brother of Fernando Mendoza, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner and the quarterback who led Indiana to the national championship. But this team should really be a running first offense with Justice Haynes, who of course, was a player at Alabama.
Then he went to Michigan. He was hurt last year, but he’s a really good player now. He’s the premier back for Georgia Tech, and that should be the focal point for that Georgia Tech team, especially with questions about their receivers and their transfer tight end. So we’ll see how the Yellow Jackets do on Thursday against Colorado. Then on Saturday at 3:00, it’s the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee State, a cash for clunkers game to start the 2026 season.
They got two cash for clunkers games. Then they’ll play at Arkansas, who is not expected to be very good in the SEC this year. And then the season kind of really starts on September the 26th, when Oklahoma, who is expected to be a very, very good team in the SEC, they will come to Athens on September the 26th for this year’s Georgia team.
Of course, the first question is probably going to be about Gunner Stockton. How will he do in year or two? And of course, we know that we’ve seen other quarterbacks like Carson back. Also Stetson Bennett, Jake Fromm do better in their second year as the starter. So we expect some type of improvement as well from Gunner Stockton. He should be helped by the fact that this offensive line could be the best in college football.
LED by Drew Bobo, the sinner who missed the game against Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. And that was a big deal for this Georgia team. Drew Bobo is one of the best players at that position in the country, and he’ll lead this Georgia offensive line. They’ve got Ernest Green, Dontrelle Glover, Juan Gaston and Zacky Helton, the kid out of Carrollton who was a true freshman who was going to be taking over the right guard spot.
That will be fun to watch as well. Of course, Georgia has the best tight end room in the country Lawson, Lucky, Elias Williams, Ethan Barber, Jayden Riddell, Colton Heinrich and a freshman that is listed as a tight end in Cain. Pro throw the kid from Bowden, but he’s probably going to be a receiver. And one of my guests on my show a couple of weeks ago said, this kid ought to be out there for 80% of the place.
He’s that good. So we’ll see how he does with the kind of new wide receiver room as well. With, of course, a lot of the players from last year’s Zach Ryan Branch, Colby Young, Noah Thomas, they’re all gone. So now you have players like Taylor and Taylor, C.J. Wiley, Craig Danner, a true freshman, Thomas Blackshear, some other guys like that, too.
Kirby White, could also probably be in the mix there as being one of the more dependable receivers for this team. Running back room looks good with Nate Frazier leading the way. And this Georgia defense. Well look we know when they won national championships a couple of years ago it was mainly because the defense and I think the depth on this defense for Georgia is exceptional.
Case in point we learned on Monday that Xavier McLeod, who some including myself, expected to start at one of the three defensive line positions, had left the team. Kirby Smart said earlier on Wednesday that he left the team like after the second practice in early August. Well, so he gone and it doesn’t matter. They’ve got really good players to step right in, like Jordan Hall, who started the first eight games of the season last year before getting hurt, McLeod replaced him.
So now Jordan Hall gets that spot back. But they’ve got depth. They’ve got Dominique OG, Boco, they’ve also got Nassir Johnson, the kid from Dublin who played very well. So that is not going to be a problem at all. The depth there on that defensive line is really, really good. The linebackers could be the best group in the country and look, they’ve got two of the best secondary players in the country as well, with Ellis Robinson at cornerback and K.J. bowling at safety.
Look, I’m tried to be a little calm here in the preseason, but I objectively will tell you that Georgia’s loaded now. They’ve got to go through the schedule. It’s going to be tough. They’re probably not going to be undefeated. They’ll probably lose to either Alabama or Ole Miss on the road. But does Georgia have a very good chance of winning a national championship with this roster that they’ll start with on Saturday?
