Bruce Elementary School Opens A New School Based Health Center

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School District and Bruce Elementary School have opened a new school-based health center to provide on-site medical care for Bruce Elementary students, staff and families during the school day.

With parental consent, the services will include preventive care, immunizations, treatment for common illnesses and support for chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes.

School-based Health Center Project Manager Lasharn Ferroudj says students will now have access to care without needing to leave school, eliminating common barriers to healthcare.

“We will be able to support families with care on-site,” Ferroudj said. “Parents will be able to patch into visits virtually, so they won’t have to leave their place of employment. And prescriptions will also be delivered if necessary to families’ homes. So, this is the most convenient door-to-door service that you can possibly get.”

Ferroudj tells 41NBC the goal is to keep students healthy and ready to learn and to support families and school staff.
