Brown Has No Answers During News Conference
A discussion involving State Senator Robert Brown and Representative Allen Peake Tuesday morning, may have sparked some uneasy feelings between the two.
Senator Brown was discussing former Democrats switching to the Republican Party. He did not identify the person he was referring to, but said, “put on some red sheets on the bed and say ‘Now we can get rid of the blue sheets. But keep the white one over there, because I might need that for the midnight meeting.'” That statement was made in reference to fliers he says were distributed by Republicans and called Democrats “baby killers.”
In an attempt to respond to the criticism over the remarks he made, Senator Brown called a brief press conference Thursday afternoon at Macon City Hall.
He released a written statement, but did not answer any questions during the press conference. His statement titled “ROBERT BROWN’S MODEST RESPONSE TO REP. PEAKE’S APOLOGY REQUEST” did not state an apology. Instead he writes, “When I referred to the bed sheets and meetings, I was thinking of the sexual trysts many Republicans have either been found guilty of or alleged to have participated in while serving in state goverment.”
The last line in his page-and-a-half statement says, “Again, I appeal to Rep. Allen Peake to accept my invitation to discuss these and other issues raised or implied in his request for an apology.”
