Brentwood Academy Wins Giaa Aa State Championship

STATESBORO, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – In the GIAA State Championships on Saturday, two of our teams made their respective title games. However, only one was able to walk away victorious.

In game one of the day at Paulson Stadium, Brentwood Academy defeated Southwest Georgia Academy 28-6 in the GIAA AA State Championship. This caps off a huge turnaround season for Brentwood Head Coach Adam Lord in his second year with these War Eagles. They went from 5-6 last season to a near perfect 11-1 this season. That’s the second title in four years after going to the championship game four of the last five years.

Coach Lord said that his young and injured team from last year got back to their winning ways, and this championship means the world to him and this community that really showed out for this team Saturday.

“It was awesome! You know, it’s kind of like the term on Friday night. as we get ready to play on Saturday, is like Christmas morning” said Coach Lord. “Then, you just see all these kids smiling, these parents smiling, these seniors, tears of joy, its a big deal. Being a former alumni of Brentwood, it made me proud to see that our program is where it is. My dad helps me coach so, my dad’s been coaching here for over 30 years, he’s a volunteer, and to be able to do it with him, it was just a great experience for the whole community.”

Unfortunately, the FPD Vikings weren’t able to capture back-to-back titles in the second game of the day, as the Vikings fall 14-10 to an undefeated Bulloch Academy team in the GIAA AAAA championship. It was scoreless at halftime and the Vikings were up first 7-0, but couldn’t hold on to win going toe-to-toe until the end. FPD Head Coach Brett Collier told me it’s not what you expect going into the game, but he is proud of the way his team handled things this season.
