Breast Cancer Awareness: Myths of mammograms and ‘Mammogram Marathon’

“Most women have different tolerance levels of pain,” says Mammogram Technologist Latasha Hill.

“I think one of the biggest myths is that the mammograms does not provide early detection of breast cancer,” Hill says, “And it does.”

Hill adds about 90% of cancers are found through mammograms.

Nurse Jill Hancock wants to remind women [and men] there are several events the Peyton Anderson Cancer Center is hosting this month.  

Tomorrow, October 13 is the ‘Mammogram Marathon.’ The event is from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at three separate locations:

• Peyton Anderson Cancer Center, Navicent Health (800 First Street, Macon)
• Diagnostics Hardeman, Navicent Health (1650 Hardeman Ave., Macon)
• Diagnostics Zebulon, Navicent Health (5925 Zebulon Rd., Macon)

No appointment necessary, but a physician’s order is required  

Hill expects between 150-175 people to attend. 

“It’s all about learning your body.” And knowing what’s going on with your health the nurse adds.

“It shouldn’t be a painful process.”
