Bravettes Fall Short In Ghsa State Championship

MACON, Goergia – (41NBC/WMGT) – On Wednesday evening at the Macon Coliseum, the third game on the first day of GHSA State Championship action featured the 25-6 Baldwin Bravettes in their third consecutive championship game, taking on the 24-8 Cherokee Bluff Lady Bears in their first ever State Championship Game appearance in program history.

Bravettes won the State Championship in 2024 and looked to earn back-to-back titles for the first time since 1988. However, after being in the lead at halftime, Baldwin can’t hold on for the win. Bravettes fall 66-58 to the Lady Bears.

After the game, 41NBC’s Justin Dierkes spoke with Baldwin Head Coach Kizzi Walker about what the message was in the locker room after the game, and what the future of Bravettes basketball will look like.

“I told them I was proud of them because I told them at the beginning of the season, I didn’t think they even had it in them to even come back here, but they fought” said Coach Walker outside the locker room post-game.

“We made it here and I told them even though we did not get what we wanted, only two teams made it, and we were one of them, so to hold their heads up, and make sure they’re proud, but I’m just disappointed because we did not perform the way we should have. It’s going to be rough, but again, we are used to rebuilding and coming back so, don’t count us out just yet. We’re still going to be playing, we’re still going to be working, and we’re still going to get here, again. I don’t know when, but we are.

Coach Walker went on to speak about losing two senior post players, her daughter Janaye Walker and Kassidy Neal. “We are going to have to learn how to maneuver without our ‘bigs’. We’re losing two of them, we’ll have one still, so we are going to have to readjust, and we’ll be guard-heavy so, going back to a guard-heavy team. So, I’m still looking forward to Baldwin Bravettes basketball.”
