Braves’ McCann Named NL All-Star Starting Catcher

ATLANTA – Brian McCann has been named an All-Star starter and will be joined on the NL team by Atlanta Braves teammates Chipper Jones, Jonny Venters and Jair Jurrjens.

McCann was named to his sixth straight NL All-Star team but his first as a starter on Sunday. The catcher is hitting .311 with 14 homers and 47 RBIs.

Jurrjens, who shares the NL lead with 11 wins and leads the major leagues in ERA, is a possible candidate to start in the July 12 game in Phoenix.

Venters has four wins and a 1.59 ERA.

Jones was named by the players as an NL reserve for his seventh All-Star selection and his first since 2008.
