PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A boil water advisory is in effect for homes along Rippling Water Way following a water main break, according to the City of Perry.

City officials said the precautionary advisory, issued March 29, affects approximately 100 houses in the area after the break caused low water pressure and service disruptions.

Officials warn that a potential health hazard may exist due to zero pressure in the system, which can allow backflow or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into the distribution lines.

Residents who experienced outages or low water pressure are advised to boil all water before using it for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. Water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.

The advisory is expected to remain in place for about 24 hours while water quality testing is completed. Officials said an update will be provided once the advisory is lifted.

Residents are urged to continue boiling water until they receive official notice that the system has been fully restored and the water is safe for consumption.
