Bobcats Place Two on PBC Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team

AUGUSTA, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Two Georgia College women’s basketball players have been selected to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team, while a third player was an Honorable Mention selection. Junior Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.), sophomore Kayla Upchurch (Alpharetta, Ga.), and sophomore Mckenna Rushton (Gainesville, Ga.) were selected, with the latter receiving honorable mention.

Keys, a mass communication major; and Upchurch, a political science major; both compiled a 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) and were two of only three named to the team to accomplish that feat. Other than Georgia College, just two other schools placed two members to the team.

Rushton, a nursing major, allowed Georgia College to have the most selections overall when including honorable mentions at three, tied with Young Harris College and the University of North Georgia.

This is the second time Keys has been named to the PBC All-Academic Team, while it is the first recognition for Upchurch and Rushton.

The Bobcats next take to the court Saturday, Feb 22 at the University of Montevallo for a 2:30 p.m. start.
