Bobcat Soccer’s Barys Named to Peach Belt All-Academic Team

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Sophomore midfielder Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) of the Georgia College soccer team was named to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team the conference office announced last week.

Barys owns a perfect 4.0 GPA in exercise science, starting all 20 games this season. She has scored four goals and one assist this season, with game-winning goals over Armstrong Atlantic State University in overtime and Georgia Southwestern State University.

The Bobcats also added three student-athletes to the All-Academic Honorable Mention, as Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.), Lindsey Knott (Macon, Ga.) and Kessler Matheson (Martinez, Ga.) were also honored for their academic efforts.

The addition of Barys gives 23 PBC All-Academic honorees for Georgia College soccer in the six years the program has been running.

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.

The GC soccer program finished 10-7-3 (5-4-2 PBC) this season, capping an amazing run through the PBC Tournament with the school’s first runner-up finish.
