Bleckley County Deputy Shoots and Kills Cochran Man

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Cochran man was shot and killed during an arrest in Bleckley County Friday night.

According to the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office news release, two Bleckley County deputies went to arrest 31-year-old Rasheen Wright on theft charges near Oak Street and W. Dyke Street. One of the officers attempted to handcuff Wright when a struggle ensued and Wright was tased by the second officer.

According the release, shortly after the tasing, Wright pulled a gun on the officers and pointed it at the deputy who tased him. The other deputy then pulled his gun and shot Wright.

Wright was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he later died. According to the release, both officers are veterans of the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office and have been placed on administrative leave.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is currently investigating the case.
