Bleckley County announces Fourth of July celebration, summer events and family activities

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Residents across Bleckley County will have several opportunities to celebrate, volunteer and connect with the community throughout July and early August as local organizations host a variety of family-friendly events.
The month begins with Stars, Stripes & Summer Nights on Saturday, July 4, in downtown Cochran. The event celebrates America’s 250th birthday and includes veteran recognition, the national anthem, a cruise-in on Main Street, a barbecue grill-off, peach cobbler bake-off, ice cream competition, live music by Sons of Midnight, a golf cart parade, cornhole, a one-mile fun run, 5K race, watermelon eating contest, inflatables, children’s activities and a fireworks show after dark.
Community members can continue the festivities at the Chamber Commons during an UNO Tournament on Tuesday, July 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for the public and $5 for Middle Georgia Academy students. Chips, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
Families preparing for the upcoming school year can attend Dr. Bills Kids’ DBK Summer Bash on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will offer free school supplies while supplies last, along with free food, drinks, bounce houses and family activities.
The Downtown Cochran Super Scavenger Hunt is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, at 6 p.m. Participants will meet at the City Auditorium before exploring downtown through a community scavenger hunt featuring clues, team activities and prize opportunities.
Former football standout Amarius Mims will host a Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, July 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bleckley County High School gym. The event will include backpacks, school supplies, food and additional resources for local families.
The Chamber Commons will also host Bingo Night on Monday, July 20, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Five-card sets are $10, while all 10 games are $20. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
Local professionals will have an opportunity to network during Business After Hours on Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. at Big M’s Meat Market in Cochran.
Residents can also participate in the Bullseye Challenge throughout July by visiting participating businesses across the community. The promotion offers cash prizes of $2,600 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $750 for third place.
In addition to community events, Promise of Hope Ministries is collecting donations through its ongoing Food Drive to help stock the organization’s food pantry. The ministry is encouraging donations of canned vegetables and other pantry staples. Those interested in donating or arranging a pickup can call 478-934-0771.
Promise of Hope Ministries will also host its 12th Annual Swing Fore Hope Golf Tournament on Friday, Aug. 7, at Uchee Trail Country Club in Cochran. The tournament begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Four-person teams can register for $300, and sponsorship opportunities are available.
Organizers encourage residents to participate in the events throughout the summer to support local businesses, nonprofit organizations and community programs.
