Bird counting and scavenger hunts at Audubon Society’s Great Backyard Bird Count
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – People spent the weekend having fun with the entire family, scavenger hunting, and trying to count as many different species of birds as they could find, as the Lockerly Arboretum hosted the Audubon Society’s Great Backyard Bird Count. It was held at an antebellum home known as Rose Hill in Milledgeville.
“We’ll be doing things that get families outside throughout the year,” says the Executive Director of Lockerly Arboretum, Katherine Cummings. “So, we hope that this is the beginning of a full year worth of outdoor activities for families.”
Cummings says the Audubon Society Great Backyard Bird Count is an international event, being held simultaneously across the globe. The bird counting event will continue Monday.
