MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bike Walk Macon is celebrating its annual Macon Bike Walk Month for the month of May with various events all month long and is encouraging citizens to take part. All events are free, and you could even win a Jamis Earth Cruiser 3 Bicycle by purchasing a $10 raffle ticket on their website.

We spoke with Kaylee Pruitt, the Education and Engagement Manager of Bike Walk Macon, about one of the events.

“Our big event is Macon Car Free Day,” she said. “So, we are hoping to get 200 people to pledge to go car free on May 24. MTA, which is the Macon-Bibb Transit Authority, is also offering free bus rides all day, so you don’t have to have a pass. You can hop on and off, use the bus as many times as you’d like that day, and we’re also hosting several commuter meetups. We’re going to have a commuter breakfast and a commuter lunch. We’re going to take the bus to lunch, so great opportunity for people to experience public transit if they’re not used to riding it. They could bike to any of our meetups, just experiencing Macon in a different way.”

Pruitt says there will be lot of group walks for all ages and skill levels, as well as group rides and other events for the community to get involved all month long.
