Bibb Students Receive Al Lucas Memorial Scholarship

7 Scholar athletes from around BibbCounty were recognized on Wednesday.·

The students were awarded $1000 through the Al Lucas Memorial Scholarship fund. In order to receive the scholarship each student had to demonstrate community involvement, posses a high GPA, and be a competitive athlete.

Scholarship recipient, Laney Joiner, says the money will help her pay for summer classes at the University of Georgia. Joiner Says, “It gives hope to students andthe athletes in·Macon and Middle Georgia to go on and do great things.”

The scholarship was established in 2005.·Al Lucas was killed while playing football for the Los Angeles Avengers.· Lucas’ mother, Elaine Lucas, says giving the memorial scholarship helps keep her son’s memory alive.

·“We can smile when we think about him, because we are helping other young people in his honor,” says Lucas.
