Bibb Student Claims Brass Knuckles Sent Him to Hospital

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 15 year-old Bibb County student is recovering today, after he claims another student punched him in the head with brass knuckles.

“My head burst,” said Me’khi Rouse, pointing to the cut on his head with three staples keeping it closed.

The 8th grader at Ballard Hudson Middle School says on Monday, he was leaving for the day when he got into a fight with three other students. Me’khi says one pulled out brass knuckles.

“One guy grabbed my hands, and the other guy pulled my head down and another one just started beating me with them,” said Me’Khi.

Me’khi’s mother Letitia Rouse says she heard about the incident around 3:30, but the call didn’t come from school officials.

“I got a phone call from a friend and she was like girl your son just got in a fight. He got hit with some brass knuckles and he was up there bleeding,” said Letitia.

Spokesperson for the school district, Stephanie Hartley, told 41NBC campus police are investigating an incident that happened on Monday. She couldn’t comment further because it the investigation is on-going.

Letitia feels the incident could have been prevented. She told 41NBC Me’khi’s had a problem with a group of boys since he got into a fight last semester, but she says the school hasn’t responded.

“My mom had been going up to the school about the same issue,” said Letitia.

Me’khi isn’t upset about the incident, just relieved it’s over.

“I felt like they had more power over me, I couldn’t move,” said Me’Khi.

Letitia is just hoping no parent ever has to experience their child in the state she found hers on Monday.

“To see that blood gushing out… his pants was covered in blood, his shirt was covered in blood,” said Letitia.

Letitia claims no one from the school called her or Me’khi’s other emergency contacts after the incident. She says she spoke with the principal on campus yesterday, and he told her a student did use brass knuckles in the fight.

41NBC could not confirm that with the school district.

In response to contacting parents in an emergency situations, district spokesperson Donald Porter said the following in an e-mail:

“It is standard practice that school personnel promptly notify a parent or guardian whenever a student is injured on school property. As appropriate, a parent or guardian is consulted prior to transporting unless it is determined an immediate medical emergency exists. While not addressing any specific situation at a Bibb County School District school, I am unaware of any instances where this procedure has not been followed this school year.”
