Bibb Student Charged After Alledgedly Carrying a Knife on School Property
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Bibb County high school student is out of jail on bond after allegedly bringing a knife inside his classroom on Monday.
Officials with the Board of Education say 17-year-old Andrew Wheeler had the knife in his book bag at Westside High School.
He’s charged with carrying a weapon inside a school safety zone.
Campus police were on a random classroom search and found the knife.
Safety and Risk Management Director, David Gowan, says the searches help keep students safe in school and he’s urging parents to help out.
“We really want to get the message out to the community for parents to please make sure their students, you know look in their book bag, make sure they’re not bringing weapons to school, that obviously would help greatly,” Gowan said.
School police conduct random searches throughout the year on no specific day.
Officers use metal wands, and occasionally dogs, when checking for weapons in lockers and with students.
