Bibb Sheriff’s Office has zero tolerance for contraband in jail
A deputy was arrested and fired Monday. Investigators with the sheriff’s office said someone paid 38 year-old Rogers Zellner to give a cell phone to an inmate. A judge set his bond at $6,800 Tuesday.
Chief Deputy Michael Scarbary said contraband is anything that isn’t given to inmates from the jail. He explained deputies do searches and pat down inmates to check for illegal items. They also get anonymous tips that contraband is in the jail. Some items are allowed in the jail as long as the person in charge approves it.
“Maybe some paperback books, bibles, things like that we allow into the jail, but that is with the permission of our major, who oversees it,” explained Chief Scarbary.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s jail website shows Zellner was released Tuesday.
