Bibb Sheriff Swears-In Criminal Investigators
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Sheriff David Davis gave the oath office to fifty-five Macon Police officers, Wednesday, as part of the upcoming new consolidation.
Macon Police Criminal Investigators were officially sworn in, and are now in place for Jan. 1, when the new government officially goes to work.
Officer Chris Paul of Macon Police Crimestoppers was among them.
“It’s a great honor to be a part of the sheriff’s department,” said Paul. “Something, I didn’t think I was going to do in the past but, I’m glad that I have been absorbed into the sheriff’s department now.”
Sheriff Davis is scheduled to swear in other Macon officers before the end of the year. His goal is to have all personnel ready by the start of the 2014.
Davis highlighted the strong relationship between both departments over the 34 years of his law enforcement career with the sheriff’s office.
“The sheriff’s office people and the police department especially the more veteran officers, we sort of grew up together,” says Sheriff Davis. “So we know each other, we worked cases together. So it’s not like a people, that don’t know were coming in and we’re merging with them. A lot of the people we know.”
Although they were sworn in as a group, they received their badges individually and the sheriff personally welcomed each investigator.
“We look forward to working together to build a great team, so we’re truly meshing the two organizations together and blending the two groups,” added Davis. “So, it’s going to be a great agency.”
More than a hundred Macon Police officers have already taken the oath with the sheriff’s office.
There are three more police precincts, including some specialized units that are scheduled to be sworn in before next year.
Sheriff Davis says a massive swearing in ceremony is scheduled to be held in January.
