Bibb sheriff fires Deputy Sutton for insubordination
The Sheriff said Sutton engaged in law enforcement activities, disobeying a direct order from the sheriff.
Sutton had been placed on administrative duties and told specifically not to engage in law enforcement activities.
Sutton was driving down Highway 247 Wednesday when he noticed something suspicious.
He pulled the car over and engaged those involved and began to arrest them.
The sheriff says that’s when he broke his direct order.
The sheriff said Sutton’s past actions on-duty had no effect on his
decision.
“There were past actions, I know, I’ve heard those things,” said Sheriff Davis. “But in this particular sense, someone it is very important that they follow an order–especially a directive straight from the sheriff trough his chain of command. Insubordination is a very strong offense and you can’t run an office if you have people violating orders, especially a sheriff’s orders. So, that was enough stand alone to cause me to make the decision to terminate him.”
