Bibb Schools Denies Allegations in Former CFO’s Lawsuit

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – For the first time in months, the Bibb County school district is speaking out about a whistle-blower lawsuit filed against them.

In the 17 page response, the school district denies the allegations in former Chief Financial Officer Ron Collier’s lawsuit. Collier claims he was fired after refusing to write a million dollar check for the Macon Promise Neighborhood.

In the response, the school district says any complaint filed was “false or made with reckless disregard for its truth or falsity.” Bibb schools denies Collier’s allegations that the $575,000 lease of the old Ballard Hudson middle school is illegal.

The school district also denies Collier’s claim that after he was fired, he was sent to work away and was “isolated from everyone.”

Collier worked for the school district for 16 years. His lawyer, Jerry Lumley, can’t believe Bibb schools is calling his client a liar.

“It is a complete, unfounded attack on the character of one of the finest people I’ve ever met in my life. It’s not something that we’re going to take lightly and we’re certainly going to defend his character,” Lumley said. “More than that, we’re going to make the school system prove what they say is true.”

The school district’s response also says Collier was facing disciplinary actions for reasons unrelated to this lawsuit, but Lumley didn’t know what those actions were.

Last month, a Bibb county judge denied Collier’s request to force the school district to stop lease payments.
