Bibb School District Meets with Employees Who Lost Jobs After Grant Cuts

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Just one day after the Bibb School District announced it’s eliminating 53 jobs because of grant cuts, those who are losing their positions still had a lot of questions.

The school district Friday held meetings with the affected employees, whose job cuts are expected to have a $4.2 million dollar impact when it’s all said and done.

The district told those 53 employees Thursday their contracts won’t go past their current end-date of June 30th.

The school board says it’s taking every route possible to ensure their employees are taken care of through the process.

“The purpose of today’s meeting is to provide an information session with our employees whose current positions are being funded by grants,” says Deputy Superintendent of Operations for the district, Dr. Kelley Castlin-Gacutan.  “We want to be able to provide them information specifically about their grants and their grant-funded positions, as well as provide them with the support that is available to them through the district.”

Friday’s meetings with the affected employees were held in private.

The deputy superintendent says those employees can start re-applying for other jobs in the district now.
