Bibb school district hosting school consolidation hearings

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School District is asking for the community’s input on its plans to consolidate several schools.

According to the school system’s spokesperson Stephanie Hartley, the consolidations are  part of the district’s five year facilities plan. The school board approved the plan last year.

During the hearing, school officials will talk about the proposed school consolidations:

  • King-Danforth and Jones Elementary schools: The consolidated school would open in Fall 2015 at King-Danforth. The new name of the school would be Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary.
  • Burghard and Rice Elementary schools: The consolidated school would move into Bloomfield Middle School in Fall 2015. The school would be converted into an elementary school.
  • Bloomfield and Ballard Hudson Middle schools: The students at Bloomfield Middle school will consolidate and attend Ballard Hudson Middle school in Fall 2015.
  • Barden and Morgan Elementary schools: A new school at Morgan Elementary will be built and is set to open in Fall 2016. The new consolidated school would be called Veterans Elementary.

The school district is hosting school consolidation hearings at Bloomfield Middle School on Wednesday, February 11 at 6 p.m. and Thursday, February 12 at 6 p.m.

Parents and the community are invited to attend and share their thoughts on the proposed school consolidations.
