Bibb School Board Members Reach Stalemate over President, Sipe to Serve as Interim

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Board of Education member Susan Sipe will serve as the board’s interim president until the board can elect an official president.

Thursday night, board members couldn’t decide on who would hold the title.

The vote was split 4-4 between Lynn Farmer and Dr. Wanda West.

Board members Lester Miller, Susan Sipe and Jason Downey voted Farmer as president, saying she is the board’s most experienced member.  Farmer added another vote for herself.

But other board members thought Dr. Wanda West should be president, citing her experience on the board.  Voting for West were Tom Hudson, Ella Carter and Thelma Dillard.  West’s vote for herself brought the selection to a tie.

With no tiebreaker procedure in place, the board unanimously selected Sipe to serve as interim president.

There is no set limit on how long Sipe will serve in the position, but according to the board’s attorneys, a new president won’t be named until the board can agree on a candidate.
