Bibb School Board Censures Member Who Spilled Info
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb School Board issued a censure statement Monday night against one of its members who allegedly leaked information to the Telegraph in January.
The statement says an unknown board member revealed information from a Jan. 17 executive session that should have been kept private.
It goes on to say that since the board member didn’t self report his or her violation, a costly investigation into the matter wouldn’t be in the best of taxpayers interests.
Instead, the statement of censure shows that the board disapproves of the unknown member’s actions.
It describes censure as “a judgment of stern condemnation of one of its members for behaviors or actions that violate laws or its policies, rule or norms; it also is a public act of rebuking a member for unacceptable action through an official reprimand.”
At the board’s meeting Thursday, it will consider changing its policy to require self-reporting of violations by board members in the future and allow for public censure of identified board members.
