Bibb School Board Begins Work on Fiscal Year 2014 Budget

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School Board holds a worksession to begin discussions for its budget for fiscal year 2014.

With pending litigation against the school system and the possibility of year-round school in the near future, board member Lester Miller says it’s important the board is responsible when preparing its budget.

“It’s very apparent that with declining revenues and increased expenses–particularly involving insurance needs that must be met for the teachers, that we’re going to face ourself a very large deficit pretty soon if we don’t get a handle on it,” says Miller.

Miller says the school board expects to hold a few more workshops before presenting the budget to the public sometime in May.  He says hopefully after that, a budget can be approved in June.

The board will hold a special-called meeting on Thursday that was originally scheduled for last week but was abruptly postponed when some of the board members couldn’t make it.

Board members are expected to meet in executive session and could discuss Superintendent Romain Dallemand’s future with the school board.
