Bibb girls learn about construction at summer camp
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A few Bibb County girls are picking up hammers and saws this week to learn about construction.
M.A.G.I.C. stands for Mentoring A Girl In Construction. The participants are building and painting their own wooden tool boxes. The program’s organizer wants to make sure girls know there are many different careers available for women.
“My dad was an electrician and he was raised the old way where a woman was in the office, not in the field. So I thought that all my life and I think we are busting glass ceilings everyday. By doing what we do and showing these girls another way,” explained the director of M.A.G.I.C. Renee Conner.
The campers will test their welding skills later this week. They’ll also learn about electrical currents while wiring stitches, plugs, and outlets.
