MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot at a car as it sped away because he thought it was going to hit him.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy David Whigham received a look out call for a stolen car.

He found the car on Log Cabin Drive and confirmed it was the car he was looking for.

He tried to pull it over, and the car pulled into the Sandy Springs Apartments on Bloomfield Drive.

It went to the end of the complex and stopped.

A passenger got out and ran away.

Then, the car turned toward Deputy Whigham as he was walking toward the driver’s side of the car.

The driver revved his engine and sped toward the deputy–making him think it was going to hit him.

He shot at the car to try to stop it.

The car, which was a burgundy 1998 Mercedes-Benz ML320 made a right onto Bloomfield Drive.

No injuries were reported.

The incident is under investigation by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Internal Affairs Division.
