Around 3:45 AM Saturday morning, Bibb Sheriff Deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious person in the 400 block of Garnett Drive South. In the course of the investigation, the deputies discovered 34 year old Keevie Varnado lying on the ground suffering from a gun shot wound to the head.

According to Sergeant Sean DeFoe of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the 911 caller said a black male was sitting on his front porch and said call 911 as there were shots fired a few blocks over.

Deputies made contact with 41 year old Michael Deon Howard of Macon and offered to give him a ride back to his residence. As deputies were leaving Garnett Drive South residence with Howard, they turned onto Yellowstone Way and saw a white Dodge Caravan had run across a yard and hit a parked vehicle.

The wrecked van was still running and deputies found Varnado lying on the ground, next to the driver’s side door, bleeding from the head. Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene. She was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Investigators discovered Keevie lived with her brother Kareem Varnado, at 720 Sandusky Drive where a party had been held earlier that evening. Michael Deon Howard had been at that party arguing with Keevie throughout the day and night.

Around 3:30 am, Keevie was giving Howard a ride back to his residence on Hillcrest Avenue. Howard is believed to have shot Keevie in the head while having an argument in the van at 7020 Sandusky Drive.

Investigators continue to search for the handgun which was involved in the shooting. Howard was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex where he is being charged for Aggravated Assault and Parole Violation.

This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information in reference to this incident is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-746-9441.
