Bibb County Sheriff’s Office welcomes new jail administrator as expansion begins

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- As the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office launches phase one of its new jail expansion, a new leader is stepping in to oversee jail operations. Coniel Samuel Jines, a veteran corrections official with national credentials, has been appointed Jail Administrator. Jines will manage nearly 100 deputies, staff, and vendors as he takes on the challenges facing the Bibb County Jail.

41 NBC’s Fiona King recently sat down with Jines to discuss his vision for the facility. Addressing ongoing issues such as overcrowding and safety concerns, Jines emphasized his commitment to restoring trust between the jail and the community.

“The big things I want to do is restore that trust with the community in our jail, and I think the sheriff sees that when he was trying to hire me, there are certain things that we need to improve. There are maintenance related issues that we can go ahead and start tackling today. We want to have an area where these guys are being rehabilitated and they’re not just coming to do their time,” Jines told 41 NBC.

One of Jines’ immediate priorities is the creation of a special needs unit, designed to house individuals experiencing mental health issues. This initiative aims to address the unique needs of vulnerable inmates and improve overall safety and rehabilitation efforts inside the jail.
