Bibb County Sheriff’s Office using P.R.I.D.E. to create community excellence
“I think it’s time that we bring PRIDE into the community,” Sheriff David Davis.
An acronym and a way of thinking…
“We need to interact with each other. We need to interact with those who are trying to do wrong with the idea of creating deterrence,” Davis said.
Since last year, Davis wanted to put a focus on building a unique relationship with the county’s residents.
“We need a little bit more. We need a little bit more, and we want to step it up a notch,” he said.
The top cop came up with P.R.I.D.E. — a new initiative from the sheriff’s office he’s hoping creates a new mindset for both his deputies and people in the community.
“Our deputies will always be interacting to what’s going on in the community. They’ll be interacting with members of the community. They’ll be knocking on doors to see what’s going on in our community,” Davis said. “All of this is to put this community on the road to excellence.”
PRIDE: presence, reaction, interaction, deterrence, and excellence – -a goal Davis says he hopes the community can reach to stop violence, blight, and even litter in the neighborhoods across the county.
“A deterrence to the bad things going in the community, a deterrence to the crime, a deterrence to the people who want to leave trash on the side of the road, a deterrence to those who let their property go down and become blighted,” he said.
Davis is optimistic about the challenge and says he hopes P.R.I.D.E. encourages people to want a better Bibb County.
The sheriff’s office is looking for community volunteers and partners. If you’re interested, call Deputy Linda Howard at (478) 621-5624.
