Bibb County Sheriff’s Office searches for man accused of shooting at a deputy

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance identifying a man they say shot at a deputy near Grier Street, Monday night.

According to a news release, Deputy Sherrell heard multiple gunshots and found a large group people near Neal Avenue and Grier Street running towards him.

The deputy followed one suspect towards Roosevelt Avenue. The deputy pursued the suspect first in his car then on foot. When Deputy Sherrell exited his vehicle he heard 3 shots coming from the suspects direction. The deputy immediately took cover and called for back up. He did not return fire.

The suspect was not arrested.

During the search for the suspect, a car sped down Grier Street. Deputies stopped the vehicle and found an AR15 handgun and a 9mm handgun on the front seat of the car.

Driver, Vanterus Lenard Davis was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm with altered serial numbers.
