Bibb County Sheriff’s Office offers Black Friday Shopping tips

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office hopes that everyone enjoy their holiday shopping and remain cautious of thieves.

Shoppers should make sure car doors are locked and be aware of their surroundings. This is the time of the year where cars are likely to be broken into.

“These are crimes of opportunity when they see an opportunity to take advantage of
someone and take their property” says Lieutenant Gonzalez.

Here’s a few more tips to keep in mind while out shopping:

-Plan to shop with friends and relatives instead of going out alone.

-If it is dark when you are out, park and walk in well-lit areas and carry keys in your hand.

-Stay alert to your surroundings and take a moment to look around for possible suspicious persons, vehicles, and/or situations.

-Prior to getting into your vehicle take a look inside and around before entering your vehicle.

-Keep your cellphone charged and with you while shopping.
