UPDATE: Man identified in deadly shooting in south Macon

Deputies responded to the 3700 block of Spencer Circle just after 3:30 p.m. in reference to a person shot.

UPDATE: (10/8) – According to the Macon-Bibb County Coroners Office, the man has been identified as 44-year-old Jason Elliott Mitchum, and the next of kin has been notfied.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death that happened Monday afternoon in south Macon.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 3700 block of Spencer Circle just after 3:30 in reference to a person shot.

Deputies say that’s where they found a man inside a home with a gunshot wound.  He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead by medical staff.

The sheriff’s office says the name of the victim will be released once he has been identified and the next of kin has been notified.

Investigators say they’re still determining what led up to the shooting, and further details will be released once they become available.
