Bibb County Sheriff’s Office expands traffic unit to reduce crash response times
New CITE unit aims to improve response times and address aggressive driving across the county

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is expanding its traffic division with a new unit focused on crash investigations and traffic enforcement.
The unit, known as CITE, which stands for Crash Investigation and Traffic Enforcement, builds on an existing team that previously focused largely on serious and fatal crashes involving motor vehicles. The sheriff’s office says the expansion will increase the number of deputies dedicated to traffic-related incidents across the county.
Captain Scott Davis with the CITE Unit says the goal is to reduce wait times for crash responses and address aggressive driving across the county.
“It’s going to help the sheriff’s office meet needs of the sheriff’s office, meet the need of the general public in that the intent is to reduce the amount of wait time when someone calls in a crash,” Davis said.
Davis says adding more deputies will allow the sheriff’s office to respond to more calls in a shorter amount of time, while also supporting patrol units when needed. He says deputies assigned to the unit will still respond to priority calls and assist in situations beyond traffic enforcement.
The unit will also allow deputies to focus more on speeding, reckless driving and other traffic violations while continuing to assist with higher-priority calls.
The expansion is also aimed at addressing what officials describe as an increase in aggressive and careless driving. With more deputies on the road, the department hopes to proactively target those violations while improving overall response times for the community.
Leaders say the unit is expected to grow, with plans to bring on additional deputies as the program develops.
