Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announces Halloween trick-or-treat times, safety tips

Deputies recommend trick-or-treating between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to help ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for families across the community.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announced that Halloween will be observed Friday, October 31 in Macon-Bibb County.

Deputies recommend trick-or-treating between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to help ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for families across the community.

Sheriff David Davis and the department are also reminding residents to take extra precautions to keep Halloween fun — and safe — for everyone.

Costume safety tips include:

  • Wear costumes that are visible to others and easy to walk in.

  • Avoid long or loose fabric that could cause tripping or catch fire.

  • Make sure masks fit properly and allow for clear vision, or use face paint instead.

For drivers:

  • Slow down and use extra caution in neighborhoods.

  • Expect more pedestrians, especially children who may be excited and unpredictable.

  • Stay alert at intersections, curbs and medians, and avoid distractions.

For trick-or-treaters:

  • Travel in groups and stick to well-lit streets. Parents should accompany young children.

  • Use flashlights, glow sticks or reflective tape for visibility.

  • Cross streets at corners and look both ways before crossing.

  • Avoid eating candy until it has been checked by an adult. Discard unwrapped or suspicious items.

  • Consider attending organized community events as a safe alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds families that safety starts with preparation and awareness — and wishes everyone in Bibb County a happy Halloween.
