Bibb County Sheriff David Davis says, “We’re hiring!”
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s office is short 100 employees. They are down 40 patrol deputies and there plenty of other open positions throughout the rest of the department.
Because of that, Sheriff David Davis says many deputies are working overtime. But he quickly points out that people in Bibb County are safe. Davis adds there is no drop off in the quality work that his men and women are doing on a daily basis.
Two issues led to the problem: The consolidation of the sheriff’s office with the Macon Police Department and many high ranking deputies cashed in on an attractive early retirement incentive package.
Sheriff Davis tells 41NBC, it’s clear people are shying away from applying for jobs at the Sheriff’s Office.
“The people who are just looking for a paycheck because of the things that have happened across the United States, they feel like if I have the potential to be harmed or shot maybe I need to go somewhere else to find a paycheck,” continues Sheriff Davis.
There are openings in corrections, forensics, court services, criminal investigations, outreach and patrol.
