Bibb County Sheriff Announces New Roles in Office

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Newly elected Bibb County Sheriff David Davis announced that the sheriff’s office will not have two chief deputies because of changes in state law.

Davis said having one chief deputy and a chief of staff is a more efficient way to run the office.

“The chief of staff position will handle the day-to-day operations at the sheriffs office, while the chief deputy will be second in command as well as work on policies and procedures,” said Davis.

According to Davis, the chief of staff will be current Major David Mumford and the chief deputy, Russell Nelson. He said while preparing for consolidation of the sheriff’s office and police department is a priority, the first job is to protect the citizens.
