Bibb County Sex Offenders Get a Surprise Visit
Twenty-five registered sex offenders in Bibb County got a surprise visit Thursday night.
The United States Marshals Service teamed up with the Georgia Department of Corrections and Macon Police to conduct a compliance check. Officers checked the addresses of registered sex offenders and found two to be in violation of their terms of probation and six offenders were not available at their homes after curfew. Nine were arrested for various charges, ranging from misdemeanors to felony warrants.
U.S. Marshals Sex Offender Investigations Coordinator Thomas Patton says, “Each sex offender has different provisions in their probation and if we go to their home and they’re violating one of these provisions then they get arrested for probation violation.”>
This is the first compliance check in Macon. Other checks have been done in Columbus, Albany and Milledgeville.
According to Patton, the U.S. Marshal Service plans to do between two and four a year in Macon and Bibb County.
